Thursday, September 24, 2015 : Dallas, JFK's last day

roadmap us mark 4 5 us The city of Dallas is clean and tidy, and less bland than I feared. During the flight, we enjoy the midwest landscapes, clear of mist.
attractions us mark 5 5 us The guided tour about JFK's last trip is excitingly educative, and our guide really skilled.
weather us mark 5 5 us Great weather all day long.
hotel us mark 3 5 us During our return flight, we sleep like we can, which means not much and not really good.

mark 17 20 us

Our last day is very interesting, with the help of early-fall really great weather.
favorite us In the boarding room, while waiting for our flight, I have the great pleasure of talking one last time to my friend lost 25 years ago, with whom we were reunited in Sedona, AZ. That deserves a special mention !

Wednesday, September 23, 2015 : San Antonio, The Alamo

roadmap us mark 4 5 us We cross Texas plains from San Antonio to Dallas, end of our road-trip.
attractions us mark 4 5 us The Alamo is a very interesting visit about a crucial history point about the foundation of Texan identity. We pass by Austin without stopping, too bad.
weather us mark 5 5 us Great weather all day long.
hotel us mark 4 5 us The last hotel of our trip is a Best Western, absolutely compliant with the standards of the brand. We enjoy the pool for the last time. We have dinner across the street in a noisy restaurant, populated by neighborhood families, where food is nice.

mark 17 20 us

A great day, with a great visit and some road anyway.
favorite us Yesteryear's charm of San Antonio tourist buses. Though these are regularly scheduled lines, they use minibuses that look like century-old streetcars !

20150922 - Tuesday, September 22, 2015 - Day's Mark

Tuesday, September 22, 2015 : Langtry, San Antonio

roadmap us mark 4 5 us Today is a long day on the road. Little by little, desert yields to prairie and agricultural land. No doubt, we are back into civilization.
attractions us mark 5 5 us Langtry is a very interesting visit about an ill-known point of Wild West history. We love San Antonio, a really beautiful city, especially the Riverwalk, crammed with tourists but a true green oasis in the middle of the city.
weather us mark 5 5 us Really great weather all day long.
hotel us mark 4 5 us Our hotel is a La Quinta, in absolute compliance with the chain's standards. We have dinner at Texas Land and Cattle, packed and noisy, but where food is tasty and great.

mark 18 20 us

A nice day, with a few visits anyway.
favorite us The sound-and-lights show at San Fernando's Cathedral in San Antonio deserves a special mention, especially since we found it by total chance.

20150921 - Monday, September 21, 2015 - Day's Mark

Monday, September 21, 2015 : Big Bend National Park

roadmap us mark 5 5 us Not much driving, today. Mountains, desert and Rio Grande, this day's scenery has more than enough to leave the most bored ones absolutely flabbergasted.
attractions us mark 5 5 us Big Bend is rich with fauna, flora, landscapes and history. A really great visit, to do again sometime.
weather us mark 4 5 us A day with really great weather, with hardly a few drops late at night.
hotel us mark 3 5 us Chisos Mountain Lodge and its restaurant logically obtain the same mark as yesterday.

mark 17 20 us

A really great day of hiking and visits.
favorite us The three does gently grazing along Lost Mine Trail while we were walking pretty close deserve this special mention. They were a mere 30 ft. from us, tops.

20150920 - Sunday, September 20, 2015 - Day's Mark

Sunday, September 20, 2015 : Fort Davis, Big Bend

roadmap us mark 4 5 us The more we drive into Deep South, the sparser prairie grass becomes, eventually turning into a real desert. Mountain landscapes in Big Bend are absolutely awesome !
attractions us mark 5 5 us Fort Davis is a very interesting, real deep-dive into Wild West frontier history. Big Bend is gorgeous.
weather us mark 3 5 us The day starts badly, under pouring rain. Fortunately, it stops before Fort Davis, turning into a grey, overcast sky, which gets better as we approach Big Bend. Late in the night, a few more drops.
hotel us mark 3 5 us The cute cottages of Chisos Mountain Lodge seem to date back to the park opening in 1944. Useless to say, plumbing and paint need extensive renovation. But the restaurant is really great, with a mixed and tasty card.

mark 15 20 us

Despite less-than-stable weather, it's an interesting day.
favorite us The quietness and splendid isolation of Big Bend. A genuine invitation to travel !
