Thursday, September 24, 2015 : Dallas, JFK's last day

It is our last day. Tonight, we fly back to Paris. We spend the remaining time on the trail of JFK's last trip in Dallas, where he was assassinated in 1963.

Quite expectedly, the tragical events of November 22, 1963 receive a lot of attention : memorials, plaques, visits of all sorts, it is very easy to find the places of the attack.

We begin with a quick visit to the JFK Memorial, a vaguely cube-shaped collection of concrete plates, with no great interest other than being quite close to where the President was killed. We then do the same stalking game as everyone else : find the building where Lee Harvey Oswald, the presumed killer, was posted, where he shot from, where the bullets hit the President, and so forth.

We join a guided tour. The first part retraces the President's path, from his arrival in downtown Dallas to Dealey Plaza, where he was assassinated, passing by the police station where Oswald was killed, the prison where he was detained for two nights, the two places where the President stopped his motorcade, and so on. The second part retraces Oswald's path, from the Greyhound bus station to the house where he stayed, and to the movie theater where he was eventually arrested. It is minutely detailed and, though we genuinely have a flight to catch, we do not see time passing.

In another article, I will show you the picture where I am standing in front of Oswald's bed with his landlady's granddaughter.

Traffic is light in Dallas and, after a last refill of the Camaro, we return this car. We have some time to kill. While I am calling one last time the friend with whom I got reunited after a 25-year hiatus, Marie takes a picture of our plane.

Then it is boarding time. Our flight takes off on time. We now need to be patient.
