Saturday, June 8, 2013 : Mount Vernon

We leave Richmond under a pouring rain. Fortunately, the weather gets better as we near Washington, and we visit Mount Vernon under a bright sunshine.

Mount Vernon, George Washington's mansion

Mount Vernon is George Washington's estate, which he owned and inhabited for 45 years, except during his military campaigns and, of course, while he was President. The mansion has been carefully restored and is in perfect condition.

Mount Vernon, view of the Potomac

After visiting the mansion, we spend a little time under the veranda, where we take this picture of the Potomac. George Washington, Lafayette and many others have had the exact same view right under their eyes.

What an history lesson. Thank you, Mister Washington !
