Saturday, May 25, 2013 : New York City

Weather is still not up to expectations, not better than yesterday.

We ride the subway up to Grand Central Terminal. Compared to my previous visit (OK, it was ... a long time ago !), the station has been thoroughly restored. It's a great, great job !

Grand Central Terminal

We then walk down to the United Nations. It's a major disappointment. The guided tours have been sold out for the day, and there's not much that we can see.

Lower Manhattan seen from the Empire State Building

We spend some time visiting the Empire State Building. We take this picture of Lower Manhattan from the top deck. We visit Top of the Rock, which has a nice view of Central Park. We then cross the park toward Dakota Building, where John Lennon was assasinated. We pass before it without noticing it. Back down Central Park West, we visit a very interesting exhibition about NYC in WWII. And, at last, we find the Dakota.

After a short trip in the Subway, we make it to Times Square, as crowded as any Saturday. A few more steps, and we reach Hotel Paramount, which I remembered as an aging hotel, in dire need of a coat of paint. Much to my surprise, it has been totally redesigned, in a very classy way.

Then it's back to our hotel, with the subway.

This day's performance : 9.5 miles walking. Not bad !
