Saturday, October 7, 2017 : Everglades, Naples

Theoretically, we had nothing on our schedule for today. We work miracles to fill the void.

Alligator, Everglades National Park

We begin with an airboat tour in the Everglades swamps. Our guide introduces us to his favorite alligator, a 7- or 8-year old female, who relishes in swimming around our stopped boat, with absolutely no agressive intentions. Odd ... The lady mostly seems to be pretty used to seeing humans up close.

Back on dry land, our guide introduces us to two very young alligators, less than 2 feet long, on loan from a nearby farm. We can pet one of them, and the most adventurous, including me, take it in their hands for a moment.

A little later, we drive on off-road trails supposed to showcase wild animals in their natural habitat. We can see a few birds, a small turtle crossing the road, a snake, but no alligator.

Sea bird colony, Naples beach, FL

We drive back to Naples and have a stroll on its pretty long beach. There are many sea birds, and they don't seem to fear human presence. Marie takes photos from really up close.

We go back to the beach in the evening for sunset pictures. Too bad, in the meantime, the sky has turned obscured. I go for a swim in a deliciously warm water, while Marie takes pictures.

Later, we have dinner on Naples' Fifth Avenue in a very nice Italian restaurant.
